| Think about your web of people |
These are my Six Networking Tips:
- Think about your web of contacts & start networking today
- Make the first move (send an e-mail, etc.)
- Be available and always say thank you (Suggest times and alternative dates to meet up; mail a direct thank you card afterwards)
- Follow-up (A few months later, ask them how they are doing...)
- Give a little too (Ex: Is there anything that I can do for you?)
- If you are a student, reach out to your career development center and ask for help
Frequently Asked Questions:
- What if they say "No"?
- Don't take it personally. They are busy people who are making business decision daily. If you do not hear a response, move on and contact the next person.
- How do I market myself/my brand?
- Create a free website about yourself with Wix.com
- Design a business card on Canva for free, print them, and always carry it with you
- Add a signature to the end of your email
- Use social media (LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) as a platform for what you stand for and what you do
- Start a blog
- Share content weekly
- Can one of your contacts in your network be your mentor?
- Yes! Have as many mentors as you want. They can help connect you to your next job opportunity, next market, etc.
Of course, there is so much more that I could share about networking; but for now, this should help you get started. My final suggestions are: Be patient, be confident, and be you. You can only sell you, so give it all you've got! Good luck(-:
