- Drop Cap: Drop caps, short for dropped capitals, are large single letters that are several lines larger than the surrounding text and are taken from the first word of the paragraph.
- Slab Serif: A serif typeface characterized by thick, block-like serifs. Slab serifs form a large and varied genre. They are also called mechanistic, square serif, antique or Egyptian.
- Ascender: The part of a lowercase letter (such as b) that rises above the main body of the letter.
