March: Vocab of the Month



  1. Branding / Brand Identity: The relationship between customers and what we can see (design) / the process of building awareness. 
  2. Lettermark: An illustrated letter that is an effective type of trademark.
  3. Bleed: Where printing goes beyond the edge of where the sheet will be trimmed. 
  4. Soft Proof:  A tool that lets you temporarily simulate how an image will appear on another device, such as a printer, by using only a computer monitor.
  5. Drop Cap: Drop caps, short for dropped capitals, are large single letters that are several lines larger than the surrounding text and are taken from the first word of the paragraph.
  6. Slab Serif: A serif typeface characterized by thick, block-like serifs. Slab serifs form a large and varied genre. They are also called mechanistic, square serif, antique or Egyptian. 
  7. Ascender: The part of a lowercase letter (such as b) that rises above the main body of the letter.
